SOMERSET, Pa. - Three state police troops are partaking in the agency's body camera pilot program.
Troop T in Somerset is one of the three barracks that will use the body cameras through the end of the year. Troop B in Uniontown and Troop J in Avondale will also participate in the pilot program.
“I am an ardent supporter of the use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement,” said Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Lt. Colonel Evanchick.
“The real-world experiences and information learned through this pilot program will help the department fine-tune internal training, regulations and processes to ensure the department is best prepared for wider implementation.”
The program came to light after PSP was awarded a $52,000 federal grant to develop a policy and training program for the bodycams. Under the grant, state police received 30 body cameras for the study.
Monday Ferguson Township police announced their officers have started using body cameras.
