COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Police bodycam footage released by a judge Monday shows the crime scene at the Murdaugh's property just as investigators found it upon arrival.
Sgt. Daniel Greene with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office was first on the scene after receiving a 911 call from Alex Murdaugh reporting the murders of his wife and son, Maggie and Paul. This was June 7, 2021, in Colleton County, S.C.
His body cam footage shows Greene first approaching Alex Murdaugh, who was waiting near the bodies down by the property's dog kennels.
The first thing Murdaugh tells Greene is he has a loaded gun. He's not holding it- it's by his vehicle. We know through testimony he was advised to do this by the dispatcher who answered his 911 call reporting the murders.
In those first moments, Greene confirms the deceased are Murdaugh's wife and son and Murdaugh is heard saying "it's bad" while visibly upset.
Within a minute of his first words to Greene, Murdaugh starts talking about the boat crash Paul Murdaugh was involved in — the one in 2019 which left a teen-aged Mallory Beach dead.
